Work-Life Balance Case Sharing
WISET hosted the 2025 Work-Life Balance Consulting Case Sharing Session on October 16 at the Korea Research Institute of Chemical Technology. Around 70 participants from research institutes and government bodies gathered to share institutional practices promoting balanced research cultures. Four key organizations presented intiatives such as parental leave reintegration programs and work-life balance branding. WISET emphasized its continued support for inclusive and sustainable research environments through tailored consulting.
K-pop and the Medical School Rush
In this editorial, WISET Chairperson Moon Ae-ri contrasts Korea’s global K-pop success with the nation’s increasing student focus on medical school. She argues that the scientific field lacks the resilience and recognition that allow K-pop to turn failure into opportunity. The article calls for systemic reform to reward “diligent failures” and to offer visible, fair recognition for scientific achievements. Moon urges a cultural shift that values innovation in science as much as success in entertainment.
Gender Equality Officer Best Practices
WISET published the 2025 Best Practices of Gender Equality Officers to highlight successful institutional models advancing women in science and technology. The collection features five organizations—including KARI, K-water, and KRISS—showcasing initiatives in mentoring, inclusive hiring, and work–life balance. Since the system’s launch, 866 officers have contributed to a more equitable research culture. WISET plans to continue promoting inclusion and gender equality across the science and technology community.
